Q. Why can I only set the net in a righthand turn?

A. It is very difficult to set up a net so it can be fished from either side of the boat. Virtually all boats in Alaska fish from the right(starboard) side. When two or more boats are chasing the same school of fish this influences their tactics as will be seen in future multi-player versions of MoneyFish.

Q. Why do some schools score lots of points and others not so much?

A. Fish school behavior in the game is based on the spawning cycle of the Pacific Herring. These fish come inshore to spawn and then return to the deep. The fish are most valuable when the roe(eggs) is ripest, immediately before spawning. Thus there are three stages in the spawning cycle of a school: immature, ripe and post-spawn. Each school’s behavior in the game reflects the stage it is in. As you gain experience in the game you will learn the distinctive behaviors of each school and will be better able to target the schools worth the most points. Enjoy the learning experience!

Q. Why do I get penalized for colliding with other boats?

A. We have tried to make MoneyFish as realistic as possible and the penalties reflect real life hazards. Rocks, torn nets and boat collisions have consequences that can put a boat and its crew in real danger and cost them real money. Players, like fishermen want to avoid them at all costs.

Q. Why do I have trouble controlling the boat?

A. First thing to remember is that full control wheel deflection is 45 degrees. Spinning the wheel further will add nothing. Second thing is to take your finger off the wheel once the boat is heading in the desired direction. Don't ride the wheel! Direction changes become a succession of intermittent touches. When you set the net then you can hold the wheel over to make a continuous turn.
